HVAC Troubleshooting Guide

Many common HVAC problems can be diagnosed prior to calling One Call. We’ve identified the top 3 issues that can be addressed without professional assistance:

My HVAC was working fine yesterday, and now the house is hot!

HVAC is not running:

  1. Is the thermostat set to the proper temperature?
  2. Is the thermostat set to the “cool” setting?
  3.  Is the circuit breaker blown? If this keeps happening, please contact One Call at (678) 909-8597 to determine the cause. Schedule Repair Service online and save!
  4. Is the air filter dirty? This can cause your HVAC unit to shut down. Never run the HVAC system with a dirty filter! It’s a good idea to have an extra filter on hand.
  5. If you’ve gone through this checklist and the HVAC is still not working, contact One Call at (678) 909-8597 for a professional service check. A repair may be needed. One Call provides true emergency service. Ask if our Tune-Up special can help save money too!

HVAC is running, but only blowing warm air!

  1. Is the thermostat set to the proper temperature?
  2. Is the thermostat set to the “cool” setting?
  3. Is the outdoor condenser running and is there ice built up on the coils? If you see ice, turn the HVAC system off and allow the coils to defrost. Do NOT chip at the ice as this can cause further damage. Contact One Call at (678) 909-8597 because your HVAC unit may be low on Freon. Schedule Repair Service online and save! One Call provides true emergency service. Ask if our Tune-Up special can help save money too!
  4. Is the air filter dirty? A dirty air filter will slow air passing through the system. Never run the HVAC system with a dirty filter! It’s a good idea to have an extra filter on hand. Contact One Call at (678) 909-8597 if the air filter is too dirty. The coil and blower inside the air handling unit are likely dirty which will drive up your energy cost. Schedule Repair Service online and save! One Call provides true emergency service. Ask if our Tune-Up special can help save money too! One Call will inspect the air ducts near the air handler in case there is a build-up of dust. If this is the case, you may need a good air duct cleaning. More dust in your home can worsen allergies!

3. My utility bill keeps getting more costly each year!

  1. Do you have new household equipment such as a hot tub or other energy intense item that can use more power?
  2. Compare your utility bill to former months. Have the rates increased?
  3. Have you had an energy audit performed on your home recently? An energy audit can catch potential issues that can be resolved and save you money.
  4. Is your HVAC system running constantly?
    1. Check your thermostat to make sure it is set to the proper temperature
    2. Is the air filter dirty? Always have a clean spare nearby and change regularly.
    3. Check for debris around the outdoor unit that may be clogging the fins.
    4. Schedule Repair Service online and SAVE! Contact One Call at (678) 909-8597 and ask if our Tune-Up special can help save money too!
  5. Do you have an HVAC Maintenance Plan? Regular Tune-Ups will keep your system up to factory standards and help with lowered energy costs while keeping you and your family comfortable. Schedule a maintenance visit online and save!
  6. How old is your HVAC system? If your system is over 10 years old, it may be ready for replacement. Older HVAC systems use more power. If your system is more than 10 years old, studies show you will have a dramatic decrease in efficiency. As your system ages, your equipment efficiency will just get worse. Contact One Call at (678) 909-8597 for an equipment inspection and consider installing a new replacement HVAC system.
